Peer Evaluation - Grading Rubric

Dare to Slack
When birds fly in the right formation, they need only exert half the effort. Even in nature, teamwork results in collective laziness.

A significant problem in group work is what economist’s refer to as the "free-rider problem." Though teams can be wonderful entities they can be horrible experiences too - there are always benefits and costs. This evaluation is designed to let me know how extensive a problem free-rider issues were in your work. Make this evaluation by yourself, NOT jointly with your colleagues. Specific, targeted comments are required if you downgrade a team member (e..g., "Joe failed to show up to group meetings" or "Sue's section was not ready on the agreed upon time schedule", etc.). There is space for comments on the form.

Note:
I adjust all work on teams using the feedback of your peers. I have significantly adjusted individual grades in the past and will continue to do so based upon the evaluation of your peers on this Peer Evaluation Form.

Your Name: ______________________________________________________________

Project Title: ______________________________________________________________

Part I. In this section, list your three major responsibilities in the team's completion of the assigned work.

1.______________________________________________________________________________________

2.______________________________________________________________________________________

3.______________________________________________________________________________________

Part II.
Assess the overall contributions of your team members over the entire project. YOU ARE NOT TO EVALUATE YOURSELF.

Please evaluate the total contribution of the other members of your team as follows. Since this will be a factor in individual evaluation of your team mates so please give this rating careful thought. When you have completed this form, return it directly to the professor with you final paper. Dr. Hobbs will adjust individual grades based upon the evaluation of your peers in this Peer Evaluation process.

Example: In giving your team members a score, assume there are 100 points available for each member of the team OTHER THAN YOU. Thus, if your team size is three (including you), there are 200 points available to distribute among your two teammates. Allocate them in a manner which you believe properly reflects each person's relative contribution to the project. For example, some might be over 100 while others may be under. If Mary contributed very little she might receive 40 points and Kim, who worked tirelessly with high quality effort and output, could receive the remaining 160 points. In any case, the total points allocated should be equal to: [(100) X (total number of team members - 1)]
