The Hartmann von Aue - Portal is set to run on current browsers. This is especially true for the Context Dictionary, which uses HTML5 and CSS3 for the tablet and phone versions. When using older browsers, be careful to set 'compatibility view', etc., as needed.
The HvA Portal is a research tool designed for the scholar in the widest sense of the word, which includes everyone from the student to the specialist. But it is the student, by a very large margin the largest percentage of users, who wants answers to questions. The specialist, part of a small minority, wants data with which to formulate questions. This distinction is very important. When a student looks up a word form, the student wants to find data for exactly that word form. If the student wants more data, then the tool must offer more data. When the student begins to assemble data to formulate new and useful constructs, the student becomes the specialist. To aid both the student and the specialist, the Portal contains manuscript images, transcriptions, context translations and grammar for every word in every text, as well as key lemmata in context (KLIC), reverse word form, rhyme and name indices to the works of Hartmann von Aue.
These web pages are in reality an academic exercise for students as well as a lesson in academic contribution and scholarship. They are in part designed and programmed by students at Florida Gulf Coast University. Some of the imaging was prepared by students in Bonn; and individual contributions come from students in Trier and Würzburg. Please be patient with the students and appreciate their efforts.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, pilot web pages for the HvA Context Dictionary, including separate pages for tablets and phones, are available for examination.
