Last Child in the Woods – By Richard Louv (2001)- this well-reference book has explanations for our children’s changing relationship with the environment and outdoors.  Simple hints like the recommendation to say “pay attention” instead of “be careful” when speaking with children about spending time outdoors might help us cure “Nature Deficit Disorder”

An evening with R Louv (author of Last Child in the woods0 (a 45 min interview with 25 min Q&A)

Bill Hammond (Environmental Educator of Lee County, Fl)

1) Urban Field Trip observation skills handouts, (Biologist and other professions).  While the specifics on these instructions are written for a walkabout in Downtown Fort Myers, these handouts could be helpful in giving students the lens to see their school campus in a new light, and help us all try to improve our urban environment for wildlife.

2). Creative journaling hints- probably much more powerful than we realize.  I suggest that those of us participating in “Gopher the Cache” keep a creative journal of the experience so we might capture and learn even more from the experience.

The Nature Journal as a tool for learning

In this area you will find links to creative journal ideas. Bill Hammond is our local guru for creative journaling.   He has been an  inspiration and leader in Environmental Education in Lee County for over 30 years.  I've found some links to his suggestions an included them here for you.
